On the occasion of the 60-th Anniversary of the Lao people army the official reception was held at the Embassy of Lao PDR in Russian Federation on January 20,2009.
For the past sixty years a small armed detachment named "Latsavong" and organized by Keyson Phomvihan , Laotian communist and the first President of the Lao PDR in future became the main body of the arising revolutionary army in the manly struggle against French colonizers and American aggressors. The struggle for freedom and independence was waging in straitened coordination with other nations of Indo-China region which also fighting against the common enemy. Due to close cooperation with the revolutionary army of Vietnam and Cambodia as well as brotherly support of the Soviet Union the Laotian people army successfully developed and became stronger and stronger"- His Excellency Thongsavan Phomvihan, the Ambassador of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lao PDR in Russia noted particular in his greeting speech.
The Laotian people army properly fulfilled military duty defending the independence and sovereignty of the native land and providing all necessary terms for making the state with a new social and political system.
Nowadays the Lao people army is the power military system of armed forces which is ready in any time to repulse any infringements of the state liberty and independence.
The ceremonial party was attended by Ambassadors of the countries of South-East Asia, other diplomatic representatives, military attache, scientists and public figures. The Russian delegation was headed by Mr.V.Yazev, Deputy Chairman of state DUMA. Mr. V.Sokolin, Chief of State Federal statistic department and Chairman of the Russian-Lao Friendship Society as well as other high-ranking representatives of Russian ministries and departments were also presented.
